Proposal at Mallory Square in Key West

Austin and Vanessa's story is a love story unlike any other. Although they already knew of each other, their dating connection started by matching on a dating app. Then an unthinkable event happened. Austin's best friend was a in a car accident and was admitted to the ICU for weeks. Of all the nurses in the world, Vanessa's mother was one of his friend's caregivers. They often saw each other in the hospital, having no idea that some day she would be his mother-in-law. Austin and Vanessa's relationship progressed and they came to enjoy fishing trips to Key West. At the time they met, Vanessa had never been fishing, but Austin thinks she has grown to love it arguably more than he does. When Austin decided he would propose to Vanessa, he picked Mallory Square as the location since he had enjoyed watching the busters put on their sunset celebration performances during the summers while he was growing up. This wasn't going to be a private, out of the way proposal, though. Somehow, without Vanessa catching on, both of their families and some friends made plans to be in Key West at the same time he planned on proposing. They also worked together to enlist the help of one of the street performers from the sunset celebration, Dr. Juice.

On the evening of the proposal, Austin and Vanessa set out to enjoy Key West's sunset celebration. They wandered Mallory Square and watched one of the performances. Then they made their way to Dr. Juice's performance. As the crowd gathered around to watch his performance, Austin and Vanessa's families snuck into the back of the crowd where they wouldn't be noticed. Dr. Juice was getting his audience ready for the main event when he suddenly stopped and asked if there was anyone who had anything special to say. That was the cue for Austin's mother to start reciting over a loud speaker a poem meaningful to Austin and Vanessa. Vanessa had a look of wonderment upon hearing her voice. In front of a large crowd, Austin took Vanessa by the hand and led her into Dr. Juice's performance area where he got down on one knee and proposed. The unsuspecting crowd turned their cell phones toward the couple and recorded the couple's special moment. Vanessa said "yes", the crowd applauded and then Dr. Juice successfully finished his performance. Austin and Vanessa got a few photos together around the area and then joined their families for an engagement party in the garden at El Mason De Pepe's Cuban restaurant at Mallory Square.

I wish Austin and Vanessa many years of happiness in marriage enjoying their dogs, Sunday morning coffee, Key West fishing trips and keeping their relationship full of epic surprises.
